The Initial Spark

FIRST team 3184 was founded in 2009 at Burnsville High School. The Blaze are named after the school mascot, the Burnsville Blaze. The team has gone through many different names in its lifetime. The team was the Pyrotechnics for the first year, and the following two years was the Robo-Runners until 2013 when the name was changed to Blaze Robotics which it still is today.

Today, the team consists of around seven students and eight mentors. The members of Blaze come from all over the south metro: Most are from Burnsville High school, and others are home-schooled or from nearby schools. Mentors include engineers and local business people.

The Blaze is part of a larger organization called FIRST Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be leaders in science and technology by engaging them in mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, while also building self-esteem, life skills, and community awareness.
